Spoken Word #4 Dirt is Me.

My skin feels dirty.
I've been scratching and peeling it so;
My nails have an amalgam of mud,
hatred,
and my very own layer,
the one that identifies who I am.
It's unique to me,
but to everyone else too.

So I guess we have at least one thing in common,
at least I have one same thing as you.

My teachers' always taught me
to keep my nails short.
School decorum was a way of
teaching me to not hate myself,
I guess.

Short nails would prevent me from scratching my face away,
and my precious cells wouldn't collect
in my anxiously bitten nails.

Why do we hate ourselves so much?

Why DO we hate ourselves so much?
Why do we hate our skin, the thing scientists deem so wonderful?
Skin has the power to heal and grow back. But our behaviour towards it gets influenced just because of the amount of skin we have, or the colour of our skin, or the different lines and dots we have on it.
Learn to love your fat, and your not-so-fitting-in skin colour, and your stretch marks and scars, your moles and your pores.

You do you, remember that :)
